Extra Care Housing

What is Extra Care?

Extra care housing is a type of housing designed for older people or people who require some level of care and support to live independently. Extra care housing provides a combination of on-site support services, personal care and 24-hour emergency assistance while allowing people to maintain their privacy and independence in their own self-contained accommodation. 

Key features of extra care housing may include:

  • Self-contained apartment with your own living space, bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette. 
  • On-site care and support services to meet the needs of individuals living in the scheme
  • 24-hour emergency assistance to provide help in case of an emergency
  • Communal facilities including lounges, restaurants, gardens and recreational facilities often used for relaxing and socialising. 

Extra care aims to provide a supportive environment that promotes independence, social interaction and overall well-being to the people who live there. It offers a balance between independent living and access to care and support services, ensuring people are treated with respect and dignity in comfortable surroundings.

Llys Raddington Extra Care, Flint

In partnership, ClwydAlyn Housing Association and Flintshire County Council have developed and built Llys Raddington Extra Care Scheme for individuals over the aged of 60 with assessed care and support needs. 

Llys Raddington is a purpose-built Independent Living scheme for Older People, offering you the unique combination of an independent lifestyle, backed up by on-site flexible care and support as you need it, providing you with peace of mind now and for the future.

The scheme consists of 73 high quality extra care apartments for rent, which meet a wide range of support needs. 15 of the apartments are specifically designed and adapted for older people with memory loss or living with dementia. 

Each apartment is equipped with the latest hi-tech telecare and security system equipment, ensuring that help or assistance is just a touch of a button away. The aim is to maintain independence as far as possible, backed up by care and support as you need it.

Llys Raddington Independent Living scheme for Older People is conveniently located in the centre of Flint, with local amenities and shops within walking distance. Major transport links are easily accessible, with a main-line train station and bus stops all nearby in the town centre. The town is situated on the main coastal road, and is a short drive from the A55 Expressway to give easy access to the rest of north Wales and the north west of England.

Housing management and ancillary services on-site are provided by ClwydAlyn Housing Association, whilst Flintshire County Council provide the provision of on-site domiciliary care, for tenants with an assessed need. Priority is given to residents of the Flintshire area.

The scheme consists of 50 high quality extra care apartments for rent, which meet a wide range of support needs.

Each apartment is equipped with the latest hi-tech telecare and security system equipment, ensuring that help or assistance is just a touch of a button away. The aim is to maintain independence as far as possible, backed up by care and support as you need it.

Llys Eleanor is in the town of Shotton, situated near the North Wales Coast lines. Accessibility is easy via the convenient transport links. Local amenities and shops are within a short walking distance away, including bus stops and the train station, providing you with easy access into other areas.

Llys Jasmine Extra Care, Mold

Llys Jasmine Extra Care Housing scheme, created by Wales & West Housing in partnership with Flintshire County Council, was a first of its kind in Wales to feature specialist apartments for people with memory loss or living with dementia when it opened in 2013.

Llys Jasmine Extra Care Scheme has 61 apartments designed to support individuals with a wide range of assessed needs and who are over the age of 65 to live independently for as long as they possibly can.

Each apartment is equipped with the latest hi-tech telecare and security system equipment, ensuring that help or assistance is just a touch of a button away. The aim is to maintain independence as far as possible, backed up by care and support as you need it.

Llys Jasmine is minutes from the centre of this historic, vibrant market town and its wealth of essential amenities.

Housing management and ancillary services on-site are provided by Wales and West Housing Association, whilst Flintshire County Council provide the provision of on-site domiciliary care, for tenants with an assessed need. Priority is given to residents of the Flintshire area.

Key Features:

  • 61 one and two bed apartments, including 15 specially adapted apartments for people with dementia.
  • 2 two bed bungalows
  • On-site care and support provided by Flintshire County Council

Plas Yr Ywen Extra Care, Holywell

Opened in Spring 2020, Plas Yr Ywen Extra Care Housing scheme has been created by Wales & West Housing in partnership with Flintshire County Council. On the site of the old Ysgol Perth y Terfyn, an ancient woodland has been preserved in the grounds for residents to walk through and enjoy. 

Plas Yr Ywen has 55 apartments designed to support individuals with a wide range of assessed needs and who are over the age of 50 to live independently for as long as they possibly can.

Each apartment is equipped with the latest hi-tech telecare and security system equipment, ensuring that help or assistance is just a touch of a button away. The aim is to maintain independence as far as possible, backed up by care and support as you need it.

Plas Yr Ywen is located minutes from the centre of this historic, town and its amenities.

Housing management and ancillary services on-site are provided by Wales and West Housing Association, whilst Flintshire County Council provide the provision of on-site domiciliary care, for tenants with an assessed need.Priority is given to residents of the Flintshire area.
