Underage sales
Flintshire Trading Standards have a duty to enforce legislation which protects children and young persons from harmful and damaging products such as alcohol, cigarettes, fireworks and solvents; by prohibiting the sale of these products to persons younger than certain minimum ages.
If you know or suspect a shop is making illegal under-age sales you can report your suspicions to Trading Standards. We can then take appropriate steps to prevent such sales. To report an incident of under age selling please contact us.
Further advice for businesses
We advise and support businesses to help them understand the legislation relating to age restricted products. To request advice on selling age related products please contact us.
Advice leaflets for age-restricted products are available from the Trading Standards Wales website. This includes a list of products, the minimum age of persons to whom they may be sold and the maximum penalty on conviction of selling to a person younger than that minimum age.
Test purchase volunteers
If you are the parent of a young person or a young person yourself who may be interested in helping Flintshire Trading Standards tackle prohibited underage sales and would like to know more please contact us.
