A school age child who wishes to obtain employment in the County of Flintshire must apply for a:
Work Permit
There are bye laws which determine the type of work children can undertake and the hours they can work. Further advice can be obtained from your Local Education Authority.

Work Permit Information
An application form for a work permit is attached. It must be completed by both parent/s or guardian and the employer. The Employer has a duty to share with you the Assessment of any risk that your child may face in undertaking employment.

13 years of age or over (but under 15)
To take up part time employment children must be 13 years of age or over. If you are 13 years of age or over (but under 15) your employment should not exceed the following criteria for Mornings, Evenings, Saturday or School Holidays, Sundays or Weekly Maximum:
Morning
A maximum of 1 hour to be worked between 7.00am and commencement of school.
Evening
A Maximum of 2 hours between the close of school and 7.00pm (Please Note: Only 1 hour can be worked if child has worked before school)
Saturday or School Holiday
A maximum of 5 hours per day (excluding intervals for meals or rest)
Sundays
A maximum of 2 hours
Weekly Maximum
Term Time – 12 hours
Holiday Time – 25 hours
15 years of age and has not reached the school leaving age
If the child seeking employment is 15 years of age and has not reached the school leaving age (this is the last Friday in June in the school year in which a child reaches the age of 16). The same applies as with the above for 13 years of age or over (but under 15) apart from Saturday or School Holiday and Weekly Maximum. Please see below:

A maximum of 5 hours per day (excluding intervals for meals or rest)
Weekly Maximum
Term Time – 12 hours
Holiday Time – 25 hours
Important
All children should have at least two consecutive weeks without employment in the school holidays at some point during the year and no more than 4 hours to be worked continuously without a break.
