Place Making is a process that aims to set a vision for the future and identify a range of activities that would benefit the place, local people and local organisations. Information gathered through a Place Making process will be used to inform the development of future priorities for the area which are detailed in a plan for a defined area such as a town centre (or sometimes part of a larger town/ city).
The plans will provide a framework to guide activity and project development within the next 5-10 years by a range of people & organisations to bring about positive change. Through having Place Making Plans, the Welsh Government hopes that local authorities & their partners achieve a more co-ordinated approach to working together, identify opportunities for investment, improve the area for local residents, businesses & visitors, amongst a range of other positive outcomes.
Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet (Council’s decision-making body made up of local elected members) has decided that the work should be phased in light of the resources available and time needed to produce plans for the 7 main towns of Flintshire. Buckley, Holywell and Shotton were agreed to be part of tranche 1 of Place Making Plan activity in Flintshire, work that was started in 2023.
Between February and June 2023 Shotton residents were invited to get involved in a variety of different ways including online engagement and at face to face drop in events. This phase is now bringing together the data analysis, the feedback and identifies key priorities for the town. The survey asks the public their level of awareness of Place Making in Shotton, their level of agreement with the proposed priorities and the level of agreement with the proposed way forward.
Results from the Flintshire Place Making consultations for Shotton will be available here in due course.
