Flintshire Coast Park

Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Members will be asked to approve the way forward for the proposed Flintshire Coast Park when they meet on 18 October.

The development of a Coast Park has long been mooted, particularly since the opening of the Wales Coast Path in 2012.

In March this year, the Flintshire Coast Park review was put forward and councillors supported the approach to commission a scoping study.

Now complete, the study explores the benefits and opportunities that could be achieved through the establishment of a Flintshire Coast Park.  Improvements could be realised in the business environment and visitor economy, public realm and the natural environment;  providing a real contribution to biodiversity, climate change and social economic goals.  The study also examines options for potential footprints and steps for implementation.

Flintshire’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Economy, Councillor David Healey, said:

“While the study does not recommend any particular option, we do think that, on balance, option two is the most suitable.  This focuses on the area around the Wales Coast Path with gateway hubs and connecting ‘green corridors’ to neighbouring communities.   This will ensure we make the most of the area’s outstanding nature and heritage, attract more visitors and help reverse environmental decline.”

If approved, work would start to move the project forward.  With significant work to be done, the expected launch date of the Coast Park is spring 2024.
