Flintshire young people visit Hungary
Published: 28/04/2023
Earlier this month, 13 young people from Flintshire had an amazing opportunity to travel to Hungary for 8 days and visit major cities such as Budapest, Vienna and Bratislava.
Officers from Flintshire Youth Services in partnership with Urdd Gobaith Cymru, accompanied the group on the trip, which was funded by Taith Wales. As well as ensuring a marvellous time was had by all, the focus of the trip was for the young people to gain independence skills, build confidence and self-esteem, make new friends all whilst visiting a new country.
Officers shared daily updates with the young people’s parents and guardians to let them know how their youngsters were progressing and the tasks they had accomplished. The group learned preparation and cooking skills, canoeing, trip planning and working together as a team.
One young person said: “I have had the best time ever and have made some amazing friends. I feel so confident now and want to thank the staff so much for helping me with my confidence, you don’t know how much that has changed me! Best trip ever and can’t wait to see my new friends again soon”
Darren Morris, Flintshire Youth Services said: “We praise these young people on their exceptional behaviour, their courteous manner, their willingness to engage and take part in everything that was thrown at them. We have seen caterpillars grow into butterflies. The transformation in these young people has been amazing and we are very proud to have been a part of their experience.”
Matt Hayes, Senior Manager for Flintshire Youth Services said "We thank Urdd Gobaith Cymru for choosing us as partners for this fantastic trip and also to Taith, for the funding they have supplied to the Urdd. It has been a great experience for our young people here in Flintshire and we look forward to more exciting collaborative opportunities in the future."
