Holywell safe routes to schools – have your say!
Published: 15/09/2023
Flintshire County Council is seeking the views of local residents on proposals to implement Active Travel (walking and cycling) infrastructure on two routes within Holywell.
· Route 1 serves Ysgol Gwenffrwd County Primary School and St Winefride’s Catholic Primary School.
· Route 2 serves Ysgol Treffynnon and Ysgol Maes Y Felin.
The proposals are informed by a study undertaken by consultants during 2022 which identified key routes to each school based on where pupils live as well as site visits, observations of issues faced by people walking and cycling, and discussions with some of the schools.
There are two ways people can share their views and opinions:
· More information including site plans will be available for viewing on Tuesday 19th September between 1pm and 7pm at the Council’s Connects Centre in Holywell.
· Information, site plans and an online survey form will be available on the Council’s website between Monday 11 September and Monday 2nd October 2023.
Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene and the regional transport strategy, Councillor Dave Hughes said: “Utilising Welsh Government funding, Flintshire County Council is pleased to propose these two very important Safe Routes in Communities schemes which aim to improve accessibility for pupils, parents and local residents in Holywell.
"With these proposals we aim to improve conditions for walking and cycling by reducing traffic speeds, improving pedestrian priority and widening footways. With the addition of green infrastructure these areas will provide an attractive and safe environment, encouraging more people to walk and cycle more frequently."
