Council supports local businesses through grant scheme
Published: 05/02/2015
Some of the county’s small businesses will benefit from financial support from
the Council, through a business rates local needs grant scheme.
Flintshire County Council has received funding from Welsh Government to
implement the grant scheme, which aims to support local businesses that are in
need of financial assistance. The funding will allow the Council to provide
additional support to small businesses who receive partial small business rate
relief and who have a rateable value threshold between £6,001 and £7,500. Over
200 businesses which meet this criteria are now due to benefit from this
top-up grant.
As a result of these awards, many small businesses, especially those operating
in our local high streets and town centres, will receive a grant which
effectively removes them from any liability to business rates in 2014-15.
Letters will shortly be issued to businesses to confirm the additional awards.
Cllr Aaron Shotton, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Finance, said:
“We are very pleased to be able to provide additional support for many of our
local businesses. This is part of our commitment to sustain local employment
and businesses, and shows that we are doing all we can to support the local
economy and to demonstrate that Flintshire is very much open for business.”
