Celebrating science and maths at Ysgol Cae’r Nant

A presentation event took place recently at Ysgol Cae’r Nant in Connah’s Quay, to mark the success of a series of workshops which have taken place with children from years five and six, around the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The purpose of the workshops was to encourage and raise pupils’ aspirations in STEM related subjects, so that they view these subjects in a positive light at High School and beyond, working towards a possible career. STEM workshops are delivered in partnership with Flintshire Communities First East Cluster and SARN Associates. Councillor Aaron Shotton, Leader of the Council, who attended the evening, said: “It was a pleasure to attend the presentation evening and present prizes to the children, who showed a great deal of enthusiasm during the workshops, especially when taking part in the activities. They generated heat and light using a small bulb and a battery, engineered movement by connecting cogs and axles, and used maths to work out ratio and speed. Pupils also designed some great engineering posters as part of the project. The presentation event at the school gave the children an opportunity to show their parents the STEM related work that they had done.
