Shake up Shakespeare
Published: 23/02/2015
The verses and sonnets of Shakespeare will be echoing around primary schools in
Flintshire as part of the Shake Up Shakespeare month this March.
Pupils will work alongside professional theatre writer and director Janys
Chambers, a professional dancer/choreographer, professional visual artist, and
a professional fight director who will introduce and explore the wonderful
story of Macbeth.
Councillor Chris Bithell, Cabinet Member for Education, said:
Shaking up Shakespeare is a wonderful opportunity for Flintshire schools to
engage with professional artists and to enrich the curriculum with creativity
which will engage young people in their learning. Members of the community will
also be able to get involved through a series of fun workshops across the
county, aimed at demystifying Shakespeare, which will be led by professional
BAFTA-nominated writer and director Janys Chambers.
The community workshops will touch on the fascinating puzzle of Shakespeare’s
life and on what Elizabethan theatres were like.
The group will read and explore selected scenes, looking at stories, the
meaning of words, at themes and images, character, and what exactly is blank
verse. Scenes will be “put on their feet” and a rehearsed reading will be held
at the end of the day.
The workshop is for anyone over the age of 16 who would like to learn a little
more about the Bard.
They will take place at:
Holywell Library (01352 713157) - Monday 30 March
Broughton Library (01244 533727) - Tuesday 31 March
Flint Library (01352 703737) - Wednesday 1 April
Mold Library (01352 754791) - Thursday 2 April
Each workshop costs £5; to book a place please contact the library directly.
