Flintshire celebrates healthy pre-schools

The second Flintshire Healthy & Sustainable Pre-School Scheme (HSPSS) Celebration of Achievement took place recently.

The event recognised the achievements of pre-school settings in all aspects of the scheme and their commitment to children’s health and wellbeing.

The HSPSS is a national initiative funded by Public Health Wales, coordinated in Flintshire by a team of Healthy Schools and Pre Schools Officers in the Education & Youth portfolio.

There are currently 45 settings participating in the scheme in Flintshire and they are all actively working to promote and protect all aspects of health including: physical activity, nutrition and oral health, emotional health and wellbeing, safety, hygiene and the wellbeing of their staff.

The event was opened by Claire Homard, Chief Officer for Education and Youth and a presentation was given by Sid Madge from the MEEE programme.

The Awards were presented by the Chairman of the Council, Councillor Marion Bateman, accompanied by her Consort, Councillor Haydn Bateman.  Councillor Bateman said:

“I am delighted to present these awards this evening.  It is great to see so many pre-school settings demonstrating their commitment to promoting health and wellbeing. This has been a fantastic and uplifting event – well done to everyone involved.”

Pre-school settings that have completed the scheme in full in 2019 are: Hope Green Day Nursery, Buttercups Day Nursery, Sue Formstone, and First Steps Day Nursery.

Settings that have been successfully assessed for one or more health themes within the last year are:  Bryn Coch Childcare Club, Cylch Meithrin Terrig, Cylch Yr Wyddgrug, Pam Nicholls, Podlings Day Nursery, Sandycroft Pre-school, Little Stars Day Nursery, Stephanie Mckie, Little Monsterz.
