New Armed Forces Champion for Flintshire

Flintshire County Council has a new Armed Forces Champion. Councillor Andy Dunbobbin has taken on the prestigious role from the Leader of the Council, Councillor Aaron Shotton. Councillor Dunbobbin will oversee the Councils Community Covenant. The Community Covenant, which was agreed in January 2013 and signed in July 2013, is a voluntary statement of mutual support between the civilian community of Flintshire and our local armed forces community. The Covenant is a multi agency approach between the Council, the Armed Forces in Flintshire and representatives from the charitable and voluntary sectors, the public sector, business community, further and higher education establishments. It aims to ensure that no serving member or veteran of the Armed Forces, whether Regular or Reserve, nor their families, should be disadvantaged in accessing public services; and that they should receive fair and proper treatment in recognition of their commitment. It also supports the national Armed Forces Covenant, which outlines obligations between the nation, the Government and the Armed Forces. The County’s Community Covenant includes an online service library of organisations, and a designated web page, to provide help and support to members of the Armed Forces community and their families. Councillor Dunbobbin said: “I am extremely honoured to take on the role of Armed Forces Champion for Flintshire. I am already working to engage with our local communities, businesses and charitable organisations to support our Armed Forces community, with the aim of finding and accessing funding opportunities that will benefit them.” An Armed Forces Corporate Covenant stakeholder event is being organised for 10 July. This will be an opportunity to promote the Corporate Covenant which is a written and published voluntary pledge from businesses and charitable organisations who wish to demonstrate their support.
