Gwanwyn Festival 2015

Flintshire carers who are over 50 are invited to attend creative writing workshops being held in May, as part of a nationwide celebration of creativity in older age. The Gwanwyn Festival is a series of events held across Wales during May offering opportunities for greater participation by older people in the arts. The Arts, Culture and Events Section of Flintshire County Council and the North East Wales Carers Information Service (NEWCIS) will be hosting four workshops for carers who are over 50, on four consecutive Fridays, starting on May 8. They will be invited to take a journey of discovery with poet and community worker, Suzanne Iuppa. The theme of their writing will be ‘Journeys’. Through discussing the poetry and prose of renowned poets and writers, and by working through writing exercises, they will look at how the simplest of journeys can transform our lives and change our perspective on the world. They will also practice techniques for reading their finished pieces aloud to an audience. The writers will craft and edit at least one poem or piece of prose each for public display at Mold Library, with an accompanying reading event at 1pm on June 5. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Councillor Chris Bithell, Cabinet Member for Education, said: This is a great opportunity - places are limited, so I would encourage carers over 50, who are keen to take part, to book as quickly as you can.
