Published: 09/07/2015
Over 100 looked-after children and care leavers attended a celebration event
hosted by Flintshire County Council.
The Pride of Flintshire awards celebrates the achievements of children in
foster care and young people who have recently left care and are still being
supported by the social work teams.
Councillor Christine Jones, Cabinet member for Social Services said: Despite
everything going on in their young lives, overcoming personal difficulties and
health issues, being separated from their families, these children have been
able to succeed in sport, music, dance, school and in their personal lives.
From winning swimming badges, to gaining employment, raising money for
charities to winning student of the year in Law, we are very proud of what
these children from babies to teenagers have achieved and the foster carers,
staff and family members who support them.
It was a wonderful day, the sun shone and everyone had a fabulous fun filled
day.
The Children’s Commissioner for Wales Professor Sally Holland opened
proceedings along with the Chairman of Flintshire County Council Cllr Ray
Hughes. Awards were presented by Cllr Jones. Social Services Chief Officer Neil
Ayling and Mark Tami MP also attended.
On Twitter, Sally Holland said: “Pride of Flintshire was a fun, warm,
child-centered event celebrating great achievements by looked-after children –
congratulations to all”

families and birth families joining together to celebrate achievements and
giving the children an unforgettable day out. They enjoyed the bouncy castles,
