Views sought on Active Travel draft route map

People will be asked for their view on a new national initiative which will encourage the public to make short everyday journeys on foot or bicycle rather than use a vehicle. Flintshire County Council and Denbighshire County Council are launching their consultations on their Active Travel Draft Existing Route Maps at the Denbigh and Flint Show on Thursday, 20 August The public are invited to view the Map and complete a short survey, which will also be made available on both Council’s websites, at libraries and Flintshire Connects offices. The Travel (Wales) Act 2013 was passed by the Welsh Assembly on the 1 October 2013 . Its purpose is to enable more people to take active travel options for short journeys, for example by walking or bicycle where it is suitable for them to do so, rather than using motorised transport. Councillor Bernie Attridge, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “The Active Travel Act is a world first for Wales and provides us with an opportunity to make Wales an active travel nation. The Council has mapped out its Active Travel Routes and now welcomes feedback to help shape our Existing Route Map for submission to Welsh Ministers in the New Year. Councillor David Smith, Denbighshire’s Cabinet Lead Member with responsibility for Highways, said: “The Show is a great opportunity for us to talk through our plans with residents and to gather their views.  Staff involved in the Active Travel initiative will be on hand and there is plenty of time for people to have their say and share their ideas”. The public consultation will be open until 12 November 2015.
