Flintshire Record Office is to host a talk on a local Edwardian ‘scandal’. The talk entitled ‘Ellen Penketh – Thief or Innocent Cook?’ will be presented by staff from The National Trust as part of a national Explore Your Archive campaign. Ellen Penketh was a cook at Erddig, Wrexham, who was later suspected of being a thief. The talk will reveal how events unfolded and how she went from settling into life below stairs to a life behind bars and how it became one of the biggest scandals in the local area. The talk will be based on original records from the Erddig archive collection which is held at the Record Office, The Old Rectory, Hawarden. Conservator Mark Allen will also talk about the grant funded conservation of the Erddig Family Book. Booking for the event which is on Saturday 14 November between 3-5pm is essential.
