New improved parking on Flintshires Coast Path

Flintshire County Council’s Countryside Service has completed another building block on the road to coastal regeneration by resurfacing a small but key car park at Greenfield Docks. The project was pulled together by Countryside Ranger Tim Johnson and will allow the recreational and commercial activities on the dock continue to grow. Cllr Derek Butler, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “This is the Countryside Services first major spend from the money awarded by the Coastal Communities Fund last year. We’ve spent over £13,000 on having this car park resurfaced which has resolved an issue which has been a problem for a while. We have upgraded it from a limestone car park that had to be repaired annually as the tide would wash it away.” Cllr Bernie Attridge, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “Flintshire was awarded just under £300,000 last year from the Big Lottery Coastal Communities Fund to undertake improvements along Flintshire’s coastline. The Wales Coast Path is popular with locals and tourists alike and this car park upgrade with further enhance the Flintshire part of the path. We have had positive feedback already. It is fantastic to see a project our Countryside Service has wanted to do for a long while come to fruition. The Coastal Communities Fund is funded by the Government with income from the Crown Estate’s marine assets. It is delivered by the Big Lottery Fund on behalf of UK Government and the Devolved Administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
