Locals swim for gold

Flint Swimming Club hosted a ‘Train like an Olympian’ event recently with the
aim of getting more people active in the local community.
The event was part of I Am Team GB - a nationwide campaign that has inspired
thousands of UK clubs to open their doors to new participants.
Sunita Patel, head coach of the swimming club, said:
“We were so pleased to welcome so many people to this great event and be part
of I Am Team GB. Sport brings communities closer together and we were
immensely proud at Flint Swimming Club to be part of this nationwide
celebration of sport. People had the chance to see what they looked like
underwater, tried out the superswim bungee and raced like an Olympian!
“We are all really excited about our upcoming Olympic experience trip to London
aquatic centre at the Olympic Park this month. This will offer our swimmers the
opportunity to experience a little of what an Olympic swimmer may go through.”
Flintshire County Council Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, Councillor Kevin
Jones, said:
“It’s great that local sports clubs are taking up the opportunity to promote
their sport, especially on the back of the recent wonderful achievement of our
local girl, Jade. This was a wonderful opportunity to try something new and
aim to reach the potential for all those who dream of being an Olympian or
Paralympian.”
