Published: 17/10/2016
The catering team at a Flintshire primary school has been shortlisted for a
national “team of the year” award.
The team, from Cornist Park school in Flint, will be heading to the Vale of
Glamorgan this week to see if they have been successful in the LACA (Lead
Association for Catering in Education) Awards, in the category of “Frontline
Catering Team of the Year”.
They are the only team to be shortlisted in any category from North Wales and
were nominated by Gillian Chapman, Catering Team Leader for the school.
Gillian said:
“I take great pleasure in nominating the catering team of Cornist Park Primary
School for this Award. This outstanding team consists of Cook in Charge, Val
Williams and three catering assistants, Karen Jenkins, Maggie Fellows and
Lesley Berthnal. They are always prepared to go the extra mile and add fun at
lunchtime. Val and the team’s enthusiasm and positivity is infectious and they
have to contend with the daily compliments about their delicious food from both
pupils and staff. I wish them the very best of luck.”
The team will be judged against 3 other shortlisted schools on criteria
including enthusiasm, initiative, creativity and high professional standards.
Flintshire County Council Cabinet Member for Environment, Councillor Bernie
Attridge, said:
“It’s great news that this team of dedicated employees has been shortlisted for
this Award. The catering service at Cornist Primary School has improved in
leaps and bounds and the team is a real credit to the catering service we
provide to our County’s schools. Good luck to you all.”
