Look out for vulnerable friends and relatives

Flintshire County Council is asking residents to look out for their neighbours and family during the ongoing pandemic. 

With Covid-19 cases increasing nationwide due to the Omicron variant, the Council is asking the public to keep an eye on elderly and vulnerable friends, neighbours and relatives, who may be ill themselves or their usual visitors are self-isolating. 

Council Leader, Councillor Ian Roberts said:

“If you have neighbours, friends or relatives who are unwell or are left isolated, please make contact with them safely to see if they need help with shopping or other support. 

“You may be the only person contacting them so they will appreciate your kindness and consideration.  The impact of self-isolation on those living alone or on vulnerable people can be very difficult.  We want to make sure people do not feel vulnerable or isolated and encourage them to accept genuine offers of help from family, friends or those who are known to them.   Whilst I know communities in Flintshire will rise to this latest challenge and will do what they can to support those in need, there are unscrupulous people who have used the pandemic to take advantage of vulnerable people, and I would equally ask people to be on their guard and report any suspicious activity to North Wales Police by calling 101, only using 999 if the situation is an emergency.      

“If you are able to offer help and support it is vital you do not come into close contact with anyone who is self-isolating due to COVID-19.  Please leave deliveries of food or medicines on the doorstep.  Making contact with friends or relatives by phone or online is a good way to check on them without risking the virus spreading further.“

People are urged to help support the vaccination effort and can book online or attend designated drop in clinics to get their first, second or booster jabs.

It’s essential that we all do everything we can to prevent Covid-19 from spreading, this includes regular handwashing and sanitising, keep your distance, wear a face covering, and always open the windows if you’re meeting people indoors.
