Foster Carers Long Service Awards 2016
Published: 05/12/2016
Eighteen foster carers have been honoured by Flintshire County Council for
reaching a milestone in fostering.
The Awards, ranging from 5 years to 30 years, were presented by Craig Macleod,
Senior Manager Social Services, at a ceremony held at Northop Hall Country
House Hotel recently.
Twelve foster carers received 5 year award, three carers received their 10 year
award, two received 15 year award and Phyllis and Tom Hanson received their 30
year award.
Phyllis and Tom have fostered over 30 children, since 1986, with many children
coming to them at a young age and staying long term until they became adults,
and felt very much part of the family. Many of the children they looked after,
now adults, still visit - bringing their children with them.
Craig Macleod thanked Phyllis and Tom Hanson and all of the foster carers on
behalf of Flintshire County Council and the children they care for. He said:
“When Phyllis and Tom accept a placement they do so wholeheartedly, the
child/young person becomes a part of their family, they are included in every
aspect of their family life, from day to day events to holidays. The
relationships they have built with some of the children and young people they
have cared for are proving to be a lifetime bond. They are accepted for who
they are by Phyllis and Tom and supported in whichever way is necessary to
enable them to meet their potential, whatever that may be.”
Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Services, Councillor
Christine Jones, said:
“To all of our foster carers, I’d like to give a huge thank you – on a personal
level and also on behalf of Flintshire County Council. Good foster carers make
a difference to children’s futures and their life chances. They open up their
homes and provide safe, caring and nurturing family environment where children
can develop and thrive, and reach their full potential.”
