New Council homes
Published: 09/12/2016
The doors opened recently to the new council housing development at the former
Custom House Lane School site on Mold Road, Connah’s Quay giving prospective
tenants and others interested in the development a chance to have a look
around.
The development of 12 council properties is the first site to be completed as
part of Flintshire County Council’s Strategic Housing and Regeneration
Programme (SHARP) and are the first new council homes to be built in Wales for
over 20 years. The properties have now been allocated to tenants and within the
next few weeks all the properties will be handed over to the council by its
strategic development partner Wates Residential ready for the tenants to move
in. Wates Residential, has worked closely with the council to ensure that the
properties have been built to a high quality standard with features that are
both modern and energy efficient to keep running costs at a manageable level.
Councillor Aaron Shotton, Leader of Flintshire County Council said;
“I am delighted at the fantastic progress made on this site since work began in
May 2016. I felt very proud to meet some of the new tenants as they saw their
new homes for the first time and I was so pleased to hear the new tenants speak
of ‘a new chapter in their lives’ and how excited they were to be moving into
the Custom House development.
Councillor Bernie Attridge, Deputy Leader of Flintshire County Council said;
“I am very proud of this development and that a number of features have been
built into its design to remember the school building that previously occupied
the site which was central to the local community. I also learnt that one of
the new tenants was a pupil at the former Custom House Lane School and was very
excited to be moving into their new council home“
Lee Sale, Business Director of Wates Residential, said:
Many months of hard work and dedication have gone into Flintshire Councils
ambitious housing investment programme and to see the plans come to life is an
exciting milestone for all involved, not least of which are the residents who
will enjoy these fantastic homes.
The first phase of SHARP has been a great success, in-part due to the training
and employment opportunities it has created for local people. We look forward
to continuing our work with Flintshire Council and replicating the success we
have achieved as the housing development programme continues into 2017.
