How to apply

Please Note - If you would like to apply for a Cheshire West & Chester, you must apply direct to Cheshire West & Chester school admissions – we cannot process, or data share any application for any Cheshire West & Chester schools.

Applications for these schools will not be processed.

Please Note - If you are a Denbighshire & Wrexham resident wanting to apply for a Flintshire school, you must apply through your home local Authority, and applications will be shared with us.

Please be aware of the published timetable for each Local Authority.

For 2027 secondary places:

  • The application must be made through the online Synergy Admission Parent Portal.
  • The on-time application window is 1 September 2026 to 31 October 2026.
  • Late applications can be submitted between 1 November 2026 and 4 January 2027 – these will be processed after all on-time applications. If we receive more applications than a school has places available, applications will be ranked using the published oversubscription criteria.
We will give places to on-time applications first, and then to late application if there are remaining places available.
  • This means that an on-time application for a student living a considerable distance from a particular school may be successful, whereas a late application for a student living very close to the school may not. It is very important to submit your application on time to avoid disappointment.
  • Applications can be submitted after 4 January 2027 but will be processed after national offer day 1 March 2027 (in accordance with our timetable – Page 13 Parent’s Guide to Education Services in Flintshire 2027)
  • You must ensure you receive a confirmation email as this shows your application has been submitted.

If you have applied for a school place through the Synergy Admission Parent Portal, you can log into your account to view your application (Log in and click ‘Account Management).

Changing an application after it has been submitted

After submitting a school admission application, if you’d like to make a change there will be a short period where you can un-submit your application through the Synergy Admissions Parent Portal, and submit a new one. If the option to un-submit an applications is not displayed, you will need to email admissions@flintshire.gov.uk to request this.

Applications received between 1 September 2026 and 31 October 2026 are classed on-time.  You can make a change to an application within this period and it will be considered on-time.

However, if you make any changes to an on-time application after the closing date of 31 October 2026, we will consider this as a new application which will replace anything previously received and will be recorded as late.
