Flintshire County Council has secured funding from Welsh Government through the Local Transport Fund for a scheme to improve Queensferry Roundabout and the nearby Asda Signal Junction, both of which currently experience lengthy delays during peak periods.
The works will begin on Monday 8 February with an envisaged construction period of 12 weeks. They will consist of:
- Widening of slip roads from the A494 to the Queensferry roundabout.
- Widening of the Queensferry roundabout to create extra running lanes.
- Remodelling of the junction of the B5129 and the B5441 at ASDA.
- Signalisation of all the approaches to the Queensferry roundabout.
- Upgrading and linking all existing and new traffic signals.
During the works it is anticipated that slip roads from the A494 onto the Queensferry Roundabout will be closed for periods to facilitate widening and signalling works. Temporary traffic lights and lane restrictions will be in operation and while all measures will be taken to avoid disruption, delays will be expected.
The Council apologises in advance for any delay and disruption the works may cause and will publicise details of the traffic management arrangements during the various phases of the scheme. Access to businesses and properties in the vicinity of the works will be maintained while the work is underway.
Councillor Bernie Attridge, Cabinet Member for the Environment said:
“I am pleased that Welsh Government has supported the bid. Delays during the construction are inevitable, but we ask the members of the public to be patient while these works are carried out."
Economy and Transport Minister Edwina Hart said:
“I am very pleased to see work start on this project which is vital to improving access to a number of employment sites in North East Wales. As a pro-business government we recognise the importance of transport links to support economic growth and job creation. Our investment of £632,000 in this project will improve access to sites within the Deeside Enterprise Zone, including the Northern Gateway and Airfields development site, as well as improve journey times and safety for road users.”
